Smaller Class Sizes for Big Opportunities
We believe small class size enhances the quality of learning. Our classes have an impressively small size of a maximum of 8 and an average of 6 students, compared to an average of 15 in a typical language school classroom. With such a low student-teacher ratio, you will receive the attention you need from your teacher. More student talking time is also encouraged through group discussions and expression of individual opinions.
More Teacher and Individual Student Contact Time
At CIS, students not only receive greater individual attention from teachers in a small-class setting, but also meet regularly with their teachers outside of class time. Every two weeks you will meet face-to-face with your teacher in a one-to-one setting and will receive productive feedback and useful advice on your learning progress.
Improving Students’ Learning with Effective Learning Techniques
In a traditional classroom students usually sit in silence and recite the lesson in turn. At CIS, we encourage students to learn through action, learn by doing, and learn through discovery and exploration. Our unique project-based lessons will allow you to conduct hands-on activities, apply your English skills to real-world situations, and connect to the local culture and community of Toronto.
Integrated Portfolio-Based Assessment and Focused Feedback
Effective feedback is an essential part of our programs. Rather than a grade that only measures how well a student did in one test, portfolio-based assessment accurately reflects real English usage in different activities and the student’s progress over time. With a more thorough understanding of students’ progress, teachers can provide targeted information on students’ strengths and weaknesses while giving suggestions on what to improve. Students are more likely to process such focused individual feedback than a score on their test paper.
Exit Test with Duolingo Official English Proficiency Test
Other schools only provide their own tests and students receive certification only when graduating. But our exit test is Duolingo English Test, an internationally-recognized English examination equivalent to IELTS or TOEFL and accepted by over 1,500 colleges and universities worldwide. With an official English test result, you can measure your English proficiency accurately and can use this result when applying for a job, university or college.
